MayMester Review

Greetings to you all! As we approach the end of the year, it is time to review all of the incredible things you have learned this year. As you all know, we will be doing an intense review of Reading and Math. I hope you all are as excited as I am! I am looking forward to the wonderful ideas that are in store for your lessons as we bring this year to a close. Remember, school isn't over until May 21st! Bring all of your materials and be ready to learn!

Love Ya!

Chemistry 101

Following our "Chex Mix Lab", we began looking at atoms, and their components. Learning about various elements found in our everyday lives was quite the experience. From this, my students selected an element they wanted to know more about, and they created a balanced atom model of their element. While some selected Helium with an atomic number of 2, others were not so lucky, selecting the oh so shiny Gold, with an atomic number of 79. Counting out three different color sequins to meet the needs of the various protons, neutrons, and electrons was quite the task. We will continue to work through this project, learning more and more each day. As we display our hard work, the standard will be posted along side. In searching for the standard, it was to my surprise that the standards to the extent that we took it, are not addressed until grades 9-12. Hooray for my kids!!!

p.s.- here's the standard
SC3: Students will be able to discriminate between the relative size, charge, and position of protons, neutrons and electrons in the atom.

An Atomic Bomb

Since heredity, we have moved onto matter. My students have done a "Chex Mix Lab", finding the mass, and manipulating it until the whole is equal to the sum of its parts. They did WONDERFUL in this lab. We have taken a look at the periodic table of elements as we investigate atoms. Through the periodic table, we were able to point out about 17 elements that we recognize in our everyday lives. Next week we will be creating a model of our favorite elements. Can't wait! Love you all!

Heredity

As we enter the new year, we are going to take a look into heredity...do you look like your parents? Has anyone ever said, "that's definitely so & so's baby there?" Looks and behaviors are to thank for this. Looking forward to tackling heredity with you all. See you soon!!!

Science Test!!!

Study Study Study!!!!

This Unit Assessment connects Units 2-4. Since we are studying life science, it is only right that we start with organisms.
Organism: any living thing made up of cells
Cell: basic unit of a living thing

2 types of cells-------unicellular and multicellular
............and so forth and so on. I am very excited to see how well the students can apply what they have discovered in their studies.
